About Arthur Conan Doyle:
Most acclaimed for his classic detective novels, Arthur Conan Doyle was the man who almost authored the modern-day detective. Almost. The honor of penning the iconic detective figure actually belongs to Edgar Allan Poe with his book, “Murders in the Rue Morgue.” However, it was Conan Doyle’s character, “Sherlock Holmes,” that introduced the character of the detective into popular culture. Conan Doyle began Sherlock’s adventures with “A Study in Scarlet” in 1887 and continued to write the series until 1926. His work continues to live on in the modern-day through Sherlock’s iconography. After all, one of the easiest ways to spot a detective is with a pipe and a deerstalker hat.
